Our Rooms

We’re very proud of our spacious, beautifully presented four-star hotel accommodation in Winchester (AA rating, four-star inn), offering a superior level of comfort in stylish yet warm and restful surroundings. Interior design experts Design House have created an elegant mix of antique and contemporary – finely crafted Georgian, Arts and Crafts, Victorian and Art Deco furniture sits alongside the sumptuous fabrics and wallpapers of designers Osborne & Little, Zimmer + Rohde, Nina Campbell, Zoffany and the Designers Guild (which, incidentally, our rooms are named after).

We offer three double rooms, one twin/double room, a luxurious top-floor suite with a superb view of Winchester cathedral, and a beautifully appointed self-contained apartment (the Designers Guild Annexe) that’s perfect for families.

Discover Winchester

With 24-hour access guests are free to explore Winchester’s vibrant city centre of shops, bars, restaurants and lively night-life. Visit our cosy, oak-beamed bar or book a table in our popular restaurant for lunch or supper in the relaxed, friendly surroundings of our boutique Hampshire hotel.

Come morning: freshly baked bread, free-range eggs, Hampshire sausage, juices, fresh fruit, tempting pastries and locally produced preserves are the ingredients for a wonderful breakfast, taken either in your room or in the restaurant – the perfect prelude to an exploration of the lively shops, fascinating historical buildings and tranquil open spaces of Winchester.

And if you’re feeling energetic, why not take in the magnificent view from the top of St Catherine’s Hill, gateway to the South Downs Way?

Taking a cruise from Southampton? Why not start your holiday early with a stop over in Winchester? And if you require a transfer to Southampton cruise terminal, we’re happy to make the arrangements on your behalf.

Policy on children: kids of any age are welcome in the hotel rooms; we do not charge for children aged 3 and below. We have one cot available for a young child, you may prefer to bring your own carry cot for infants. A foldaway bed is available for older children. Children over six are welcome in the restaurant at any time, and in the bar at lunchtimes and during the day. Children under six have use of the Little Minster Room, and outside spaces. Please note that, due to space restrictions, pushchairs cannot be accommodated indoors. A high chair can be supplied for use in the Little Minster Room.

Policy on pets: pets are welcome in the bar and on the outside areas, but are not permitted in the restaurant or hotel rooms.

A History Of The Old Vine

The plot of land on which the Old Vine now stands has had a chequered history, from Saxon and Norman Royal Palace to Royal Castle and thence to private occupation in the mid-13th century and a tavern in the mid-14th century (which is actually below ground in what is now the cellar and office, and was reached by a stairway from ground level). Local historian Mr Paul Poornan has made an extensive study of the Old Vine’ history – to read his full, fascinating account, please click here
